DuBois Area Insider TipsThe Inside Scoop from Seasoned I-80 Travelers.
Watch your speed and weather: Troopers are active on the rolling hills around DuBois, especially near construction zones and where the speed limit drops. In winter and shoulder seasons, fog and black ice can appear quickly on shaded stretches, even when the road looked clear 10 miles back.
Truck traffic and lane changes: I‑80 here is a major truck corridor; expect heavy semis, especially on grades. Give yourself extra space for lane changes and passing, since there are long uphill climbs where trucks slow significantly.
Fuel and food timing: DuBois is one of the more reliable stretches on I‑80 for gas, fast food, and basic groceries between the more rural exits, so top off here—especially at night. Prices are often a bit better if you go a mile or two into town instead of right off the interstate.
Restroom and rest-stop strategy: If you’re tired, use DuBois as a planned break—there are multiple 24‑hour options plus a few quieter lots where people routinely nap in their cars. Rest areas east and west of here can fill with trucks overnight, so don’t count on late‑night spaces farther down the road.
