The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) is alerting motorists of full overnight I-80 closures of the eastbound and westbound lanes in the Sierra over the next two weeks for bridge demolition.
I-80 is scheduled to be closed to eastbound and westbound traffic nightly between 8:00 p.m. and 8:00 a.m. Monday, May 9 through Thursday, May 12 at Baxter for full overcrossing demolition.
During the scheduled demolition work, all passenger and commercial vehicles will be detoured off the highway at the off-ramps and back on via the on-ramps. Motorists should expect slight travel delays in the area.
Crews are currently working to demolish and rebuild the east half of the Cisco Grove bridge overcrossing after completing the west half in 2021. An automated one-way traffic control signal will be in use around the clock on the overcrossing through October during construction work.
Further west on I-80, the Baxter Road Overcrossing will be closed to all traffic through August while the structure is rebuilt. Local traffic wishing to access I-80 eastbound should take Baxter Road to the Crystal Springs Overcrossing and use the eastbound on-ramp for I-80.
