If you travel on I-80 between Johnson County Road F-44, two miles east of Iowa City, and Cedar County Road X-40, Exit 259, near West Branch, you need to be aware of nighttime lane closures and traffic shifts that that could slow down your trip, according to the Iowa Department of Transportation (Iowa DOT).
Beginning on Sunday night, March 9, until Friday, November 14, crews will continue reconstruction work on I-80 in Johnson and Cedar Counties that will widen the roadway between Iowa City and West Branch to six lanes in each direction. On Sunday through Thursday nights, weather permitting, lanes will be intermittently closed.
The Iowa DOT reminds motorists to drive with caution, obey the posted speed limit and other signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations are at least double in work zones. As in all work zones, drivers should stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles, and wear seat belts.
