The New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) reports that I-80 is scheduled to have long-term left lane closures in both directions beginning Wednesday as the Bridges over Howard Boulevard replacement project advances in Mount Arlington, Morris County.
Beginning at 9:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 4 until 9:00 a.m. Monday, November 9, a single left lane is scheduled to be closed on I-80 eastbound and westbound from mile post 29.8 to mile post 32.3. The long term left lane closures are necessary to cure concrete, which connects the newly constructed bridge decks over Howard Boulevard. At least two lanes will be maintained on I-80 westbound, and at least three lanes will be maintained on I-80 eastbound. Motorists are advised to slow down, use caution and expect delays when traveling through the work zone.
The $65.4 million project will replace the existing bridges carrying I-80 eastbound and I-80 westbound over Howard Boulevard/CR 516, which are in poor condition.
The project is expected to be completed in summer 2027.
The precise timing of the work is subject to change due to weather or other factors.
