If you drive on eastbound Interstate 235 to reach westbound I-80 or drive on westbound I-80 east of the Northeast Mixmaster in Des Moines you need to be aware of upcoming overnight closures that may slow down your trip, according to the Iowa Department of Transportation (IowaDOT).
Construction crews need to pave the connection from the existing pavement to the new lanes for westbound I-80. They will be closing the ramp from eastbound I-235 to westbound I-80 from 8:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 29 and Thursday, October 30. When the ramp is closed, you will follow a marked detour route using northbound I-35, SE Corporate Woods Drive, southbound I-35, and westbound I-80.
Westbound I-80 west of the westbound exit ramp to northbound I-35 will be closed from 10:00 p.m. to 4:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 29 and Thursday, October 30. When westbound I-80 is closed, you will follow a marked detour route using northbound I-35, SE Corporate Woods Drive, southbound I-35, and westbound I-80.
The Iowa DOT reminds motorists to drive with caution, obey the posted speed limit and other signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations are at least double in work zones. As in all work zones, drivers should stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles, and wear seat belts.
