The New Jersey Department of Transportation reports that I-80 traffic delay are anticipated as varying lane closures have begun and will be in place over the next several weeks between Route 46/Ledgewood Avenue and Berkshire Valley Road in Roxbury and Mount Arlington, Morris County.

From 8:00 pm thru 5:00 am Monday through Friday lane closures will be required on I-80 eastbound between Route 46/Ledgewood Avenue and Berkshire Valley Road in Roxbury and Mount Arlington. The lane closures are necessary for milling and paving.

Between 8:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. each night, a single lane will be closed with two lanes maintained.

Between 10:00 p.m. and 5:00 a.m. the following morning, two lanes will be closed with one lane maintained. Motorists are advised to slow down, expect delays and use caution while driving through the work zone.

In addition, on Wednesday, May 17, from 10:00 p.m. until 6:00 a.m. the following day, brief ramp closures and detours will be required at the Route 46 interchange for milling and paving. Only one ramp will be closed at a time for approximately one hour.

  • I-80 traffic wishing to take the I-80 eastbound ramp to Exit 28/Route 46 eastbound will be directed to continue on I-80 eastbound to Exit 30 and follow the posted detour.
  • I-80 traffic wishing to take the Route 46 westbound ramp to I-80 eastbound will be directed to continue on Route 46 westbound and follow the posted detour.

This work is part of a $2.3 million federally funded project that will preserve approximately four miles of pavement using High Performance Thin Overlay (HPTO) on I-80 eastbound between Route 46/Ledgewood Avenue and Berkshire Valley Road in Roxbury and Mount Arlington, Morris County.

This project includes paving all ramps within the project limits and will further improve driving conditions on I-80 by adding rumble strips, and new signage to the roadway. This project is expected to be completed in summer 2023.

The precise timing of the work is subject to change due to weather or other factors.
