The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) reports that, beginning Wednesday, May 3, weather permitting, a stage change on the I-80 Ridge Road to US Route 30 project is scheduled to take place on eastbound I-80.
To prepare for the next stage of the project, starting at 9:00 p.m. Wednesday, I-80 traffic will note that a lane closure will take place on eastbound I-80, between Wheeler Avenue and Briggs Street. At least one eastbound lane will remain open to traffic.
By 5:00 a.m. Thursday, May 4, all lanes reopen and the new lane pattern will be in place. In the new configuration, the eastbound lane-split at Hickory Creek will be removed and eastbound I-80 traffic will be shifted onto new pavement between Gardner and Rowell avenues.
About The Project:
This I-80 reconstruction project includes approximately 16 miles of the interstate from approximately Ridge Road to U.S. 30. The corridor includes three counties (Kendall, Grundy, and Will), and passes through six municipalities (Minooka, Channahon, Shorewood, Rockdale, Joliet, and New Lenox). The road crosses four waterways (DuPage River, Rock Run Creek, Des Plaines River, and Hickory Creek), and includes eight interchanges.
