The Iowa Department of Transportation (IDOT) reports that, if you will be traveling on I-80 between Davenport and Iowa City over the next four weeks, there’s a rest area closure that might impact your travel.
Due to nearby construction on the Sugar Creek bridge, the rest area on westbound Interstate 80 near Wilton (milepost 270) will be closed starting the evening of Sunday, November 12. It is expected to remain closed through Friday, December 8, weather permitting. The closure is needed to allow crews to construct a new temporary ramp connection to the interstate. When the new connection is completed, the rest area will reopen.
While the rest area is closed, there are several alternatives at exits 284 (Walcott), 267 (Tipton), and 265 (Atalissa).
Help keep everyone on the road safer. Drive with caution, obey the posted speed limit and other signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations are at least double in work zones. As in all work zones, you should stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles, and wear seat belts.
