However, these projects are not anticipated to cause significant delays for travelers heading to their Thanksgiving destinations.
Brian Worrel, overseeing Workzone Operations at the Iowa DOT, acknowledges the anticipated increase in traffic volume next week due to the holiday. He emphasizes the department’s commitment to minimizing disruption, stating, “We expect the impact of construction zones to be manageable, given the favorable conditions we’ve experienced this summer. Our priority remains ensuring safe passage for all travelers.”
While recent rains have slightly affected construction schedules this fall, safety remains paramount for the DOT. Worrel urges travelers to prioritize safety over speed, advising, “Let’s maintain focus on reaching our destinations safely rather than swiftly. We encourage everyone to minimize distractions, such as using mobile phones, and to remain vigilant on the road.”
