The Iowa Department of Transportation reports that placement of beams for the Wapsi Avenue Bridge over Interstate 80 in Johnson County, which is part of the new six-lane project by the West Branch/Herbert Hoover Highway area, requires closure of the east- and westbound lanes of I-80 from West Branch (exit 254) to Johnson County Road F-44/ Herbert Hoover Highway (exit 249) beginning on Thursday, February 16, weather permitting, according to the Iowa Department of Transportation’s Davenport construction office.

  • Eastbound I-80 Closures: Eastbound lanes of I-80 from West Branch (exit 254) to Johnson County Road F-44/ Herbert Hoover Highway (exit 249) will be closed from 12:01 a.m. until 5 a.m. Thursday, February 16. Eastbound I-80 traffic will be detoured at Johnson County Road F-44/ Herbert Hoover Highway (Exit 249) through West Branch to eastbound I80 (Exit 254).
  • Westbound I-80 Closures: Westbound lanes of I-80 from West Branch (exit 254) to Johnson County Road F-44/ Herbert Hoover Highway (exit 249) will be closed from 12:01 a.m. until 5 a.m. Friday, February 17. Westbound I-80 traffic will be detoured through West Branch (Exit 254) to Johnson County Road F-44/ Herbert Hoover Highway to westbound I-80 (Exit 249).

The Iowa DOT reminds motorists to drive with caution, obey the posted speed limit and other signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations are at least double in work zones. As in all work zones, drivers should stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles, and wear seat belts.
