The Iowa Department of Transportation (IOWADOT) is reminding travelers that if you drive on eastbound I-80 in Coralville you need to be aware of a construction project for the new I-80 and 1st Avenue interchange that may slow down your trip.
Construction crews need to close the eastbound exit I-80 ramp at the 1st Avenue interchange (exit 242) as they prepare to open the new ramp. The closure is set to take place overnight Wednesday, January 31 starting at 8:00 p.m. and reopen Thursday morning, February 1, by 5:00 a.m., weather permitting.
If you are traveling to 1st Avenue, you’ll follow a marked detour to the eastbound I-80 off-ramp to Dubuque Street (Exit 244) and then will use westbound I-80 to reach 1st Avenue.
Help keep everyone on the road safer. Drive with caution, obey the posted speed limit and other signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations are at least double in work zones. As in all work zones, you should stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles, and wear seat belts.
