The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) is alerting motorists about the closure of the Douglas Tunnel on I-80 while crews perform electrical maintenance in Placer County.
Crews have closed the tunnel, also known as the Harry Crabb Tunnel, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. through Friday, December 8, excluding weekends.
Motorists looking to merge onto eastbound I-80 from Sunrise Boulevard will detour to the Douglas Boulevard on-ramp.
Sunrise Region Field Maintenance requested repairs earlier this year and a $390,000 emergency contract was awarded to Sierra Building Systems, Inc.
During the two weeks crews will work to repair and replace the fire alarm panel, communication system and replace heat detectors.
