The New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) reports that the I-80 westbound Exit 60 ramp to Route 20 northbound is scheduled to be closed tonight as the Route 20 Paterson Safety, Drainage, and Resurfacing project advances in Paterson, Passaic County. In addition, Route 20 is scheduled to have a single lane closure in both directions for approximately two months beginning tonight.
Beginning at 8:00 p.m. tonight, Thursday, March 21 until 5:00 a.m. tomorrow, Friday, March 22, the I-80 westbound Exit 60 ramp to Route 20 northbound is scheduled to be closed and detoured. This closure is necessary to remove construction barrier in the left lane. The following detour will be in place overnight:
I-80 westbound Exit 60 to Route 20 northbound detour:
- Motorists traveling on I-80 westbound wishing to take Exit 60 to Route 20 northbound will be directed to continue on I-80 westbound.
- Take Exit 59 to Market Street/Paterson
- Stay left and follow signs for Route 46/Route 20/I-80
- Cross over I-80 and turn left to take the ramp to I-80 and Route 20
- Stay right to take the ramp to Route 20/I-80 West to Route 46/21/Hawthorne/Clifton
- Use the left to take the ramp to Route 20 northbound
In addition, beginning at 8:00 p.m. tonight, Thursday, March 21, the left lane on Route 20 northbound is scheduled to be closed between 19th Avenue and the ramp to Route 4 eastbound. Two lanes of traffic will be maintained. The left lane on Route 20 southbound also is scheduled to be closed between Edward Street and 18th Avenue. At least one lane of traffic will be maintained. The closures are necessary to replace the median barrier and install drainage inlets and will be in place for approximately two months.
The $48.5 million federally funded Route 20 Paterson Safety, Drainage, and Resurfacing project will make upgrades and repairs along approximately five miles of Route 20 in Clifton and Paterson, Passaic County. In addition to drainage improvements, the project will include repaving, guiderail replacement, lighting and overhead sign installation, and upgrades to traffic signals, curbs and sidewalks. The project
is expected to be completed by the fall of 2025.
