I-80 Full Closure at Exit 242 in Johnson City Begins Monday

If you drive on westbound I-80 in Johnson County the Iowa Department of Transportation recommends that you need to be aware of a construction project for the new I-80/1st Avenue interchange that could slow down your trip.

Construction crews will close the westbound I-80 at exit 242 nightly from 11:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. on the following nights:

Monday and Tuesday, November 20 and 21
Monday through Thursday, November 27, 28, 29 and 30
Sunday through Thursday, December 3, 4, 5, 6, 7

Interstate 80 will not be closed during the Thanksgiving holiday.

While westbound I-80 is closed you will be detoured off I-80 at exit 242 and then follow a marked detour route to resume travel on westbound I-80.

Help keep everyone on the road safer. Drive with caution, obey the posted speed limit and other signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations are at least double in work zones. As in all work zones, you should stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles, and wear seat belts.
