The Iowa Department of Transportation (IowaDOT) reports that if you drive on I-80 near 1st Avenue (exit 242) in Coralville you need to be aware of construction work for the new I-80 and 1st Avenue interchange that may impact your trip.
Crews will close the eastbound I-80 exit ramp at 1st Avenue (exit 242) overnights on Monday, May 20 and Tuesday, May 21 from 7:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m., weather permitting, so they can prepare for construction of the new eastbound I-80 exit ramp. When this ramp is close you will be detoured to the eastbound I-80 exit ramp at Dubuque Street (exit 244) and then travel on westbound I-80 to reach 1st Avenue.
Beginning on Wednesday night, May 22, crews will close the westbound I-80 exit ramp at 1st Avenue (exit 242) overnight from 7:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. so crews can prepare to construct the new westbound I-80 exit ramp. When this ramp is closed you will be detoured to the westbound I-80 exit ramp at Coral Ridge Avenue (exit 240) and then follow a marked detour route to eastbound I-80 and then 1st Avenue.
Help keep everyone on the road safer. Drive with caution, obey the posted speed limit and other signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations are at least double in work zones. As in all work zones, you should stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles, and wear seat belts.
